Spotting the Big 5 in Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park is one of South Africa’s largest game reserves, with a high density of wild animals populating its grounds. I spent one day driving through Kruger during my time in South Africa, and although I definitely recommend spending multiple days here, I was amazingly able to see the Big 5 all in one day!

What is the Big 5 you ask? The name was originally termed by big-game hunters, and refers to 5 large mammals – lion, rhino, leopard, water buffalo, and elephant. As you can imagine, it could be quite hard to find these animals (especially leopard and rhino), but my group got very lucky and saw all 5 throughout our day.

Enjoy this photo gallery of the Big 5 I saw!

Water Buffalo

Unfortunately, you can’t see the water buffalo in the one crappy picture I took.  They’re there, I promise!  Agh!  So, here’s a cute zebra instead!
