Saturday Snapshot – Stranger Things

Saturday Snapshot is a weekly snippet of something on my mind – inspiring words, a new food, a great book, reminiscing on past travels, or really anything that happened to me during the week!

This week was pretty boring in general. It was my long week at work, which means five days in a row of 12 and 10 hour shifts – ugh. I did make it to a cool little pop-up bar in Logan Square, though, on Sunday after work. It’s based on the Netflix show Stranger Things, which I loved!

The bar is part of Emporium Arcade & Bar – which is like the arcades you went to as a kid – but with alcohol. My co-workers and I played a round of air hockey before heading next door to their pop-up space. It was transformed into 1980’s Hawkins, Indiana – complete with Wynona Rider’s Christmas lights wall, the Upside Down, and the AV Club playing the hit show on a big screen. I especially enjoyed their drink selection. The most popular is Eleven’s Eggos, a bourbon slushie with an eggo on top.  Others include the Demogorgon, the She’s Our Friend and She’s Crazy, and my favorite, the pineapple-y Mouthbreather. It was a cool spot for an after work drink and photo op.  A must-see for any Stranger Things fan!

Saturday Snapshot – Hurricane Harvey

Saturday Snapshot is a weekly snippet of something on my mind – inspiring words, a new food, a great book, reminiscing on past travels, or really anything that happened to me during the week!

After Hurricane Harvey hit a few weeks ago, South Texas has been on my mind. Corpus Christi was my first big adventure in life.  I moved there at 18 to start college, not knowing a single person in the city. It became my home during a formative part of my life, and a piece of my heart will always live there. With all the political turmoil in our country today, it was heartwarming to see people coming together to help those in need in the Coastal Bend and Houston area.  It will take some time to rebuild, but us Texans are strong.
